Kansas basketball is still very much in the mix for five-star point guard Hunter Sallis, who included the Jayhawks in his most recent top schools list.

Hunter Sallis could very well end up being the crown jewel of Kansas basketball’s 2021 recruiting class if he chooses to commit to the Jayhawks. The talented five-star point guard is rated as the No. 11 overall prospect in the country according to Rivals, but landing him isn’t going to be easy, to say the least.

The Jayhawks did make Sallis’ top 12 schools though, which also included Kentucky, North Carolina, Gonzaga, UCLA, Oregon, Michigan, Louisville, Auburn, Creighton, Alabama, and Iowa State.

Here’s Sallis’ Twitter post announcing his top schools, including the Kansas Jayhawks:

Obviously, one of the biggest drawbacks of Kansas basketball right now is the threat of allegations regarding recruiting. It’s not like Sallis is low on opportunities to play big-time basketball either, so he could easily choose North Carolina or Kentucky if he wanted to go to a blueblood program and not worry about the possibility of sanctions for something he had nothing to do with.

Head coach Bill Self will have to do his best to try and convince Sallis that Kansas is the school for him despite the risk, which is certainly an uphill battle. On the bright side, Kansas does have three commitment forecast picks on Rivals from various publishers on the site.

Sallis’ Crystal Ball is quiet for now, but expect that to change as he continues to go through the recruiting process and cut his list further. Unfortunately, Sallis did not specify a commitment date, but that and the fact that this cut includes 12 schools would imply that he’s still far from a decision.
