Kansas basketball could use a point guard in the 2021 recruiting class, and the Jayhawks just made the cut for four-star combo guard Tamar Bates.

Four-star combo guard Tamar Bates could help Kansas basketball bring in an excellent 2021 recruiting class should he choose to commit to the Jayhawks. He has tremendous talent, not to mention he’s a Kansas City, Kansas native.

Bates’ talent hasn’t gone unnoticed though, and he’s received a lot of offers because of it. Bates recently cut his list to seven teams though, including Kansas, Iowa State, Texas, Creighton, Alabama, Missouri, and Oregon.

Here is Bates’ tweet announcing his top seven, including the Kansas Jayhawks:

Bates originally attended KC Piper; however, he will be transferring to IMG Academy in Florida for his senior season. Despite this, the fact that Kansas is essentially his hometown team is a good sign for the Jayhawks. It may give them a leg up in recruiting over other schools like Alabama, Texas, and Oregon.

After looking at some of his junior season highlights, it’s easy to see why head coach Bill Self and his staff are interested. He knocks down tough shots from behind the arc with ease, and he can finish when he gets to the rim.

With a commitment from Bates, the Jayhawks’ 2021 recruiting class rankings would also get a substantial boost. Kansas currently has the No. 12 overall class in the nation, and No. 2 class in the Big 12 according to 247Sports. With a commitment from Bates, Kansas would easily move into the top ten overall.

Kansas really does need a ball handler in the 2021 recruiting class, and Bates could be the answer. Sadly, Bates did not specify a commitment date on his top seven announcement post, but one could be coming in the very near future.
