Kansas basketball could use a point guard in their 2021 recruiting class, and five-star guard Hunter Sallis could be the guy.

If there’s one position that Kansas basketball has had locked down under Bill Self, it’s point guards. Devon Dotson, Devonte’ Graham, Frank Mason, Tyshawn Taylor, and Sherron Collins all had legendary careers under Self, and he’s proven that he can help point guards get better.

Despite this, Kansas still doesn’t have a guard in their 2021 recruiting class, which currently consists of four-star forwards Zach Clemence and KJ Adams. The Jayhawks did need some depth in their frontcourt, so it’s good to have Clemence and Adams, but they still need that guard.

The good news is that there is a perfect fit available. Hunter Sallis, a five-star combo guard out of Omaha would be an excellent addition to the Jayhawks’ 2021 recruiting class if Kansas is able to land him.

Sallis currently holds offers from a number of big-time schools including North Carolina, Gonzaga, Louisville, Oregon, Michigan, and many others. Kansas certainly has a lot of competition to land the coveted prospect, but the Jayhawks do have a few advantages.

One of the most notable things about Kansas is that it’s only a few hours away from Omaha. When Sallis was initially offered back in November of 2019, he did hint at the role of location and tradition of Kansas:

"“I was excited because it is a Midwest school that has a deep tradition. For them to think that I’m good enough to play there means a lot.”"

The fact that Kansas is a powerhouse basketball school just a few hours away from Sallis’ home town has to be intriguing to the young prospect, and it could be a deciding factor in his recruitment.

Knowing head coach Bill Self and the way he recruits, the Jayhawks have to have a realistic chance at Sallis. He would undoubtedly be a major asset to Self and the Jayhawks if they were able to pick him up, and he would also push Kansas into the top five of recruiting rankings.

Sallis would be an excellent fit at Kansas given his incredible talent and proximity to Lawrence. He could help the Jayhawks out tremendously with a commitment but don’t hold your breath for an announcement any time soon
