Despite the troubling times and uncertainty, Kansas basketball head coach Bill Self is happy with how his team is handling the adversity.

The life of a college athlete requires a lot of hard work and dedication, to say the least. On top of being full-time college students, they must essentially work a full-time and physically demanding job. Now toss in the reality that an athlete’s season could be canceled at any time, and it’s easy to see how attitudes and morale could go south. Kansas basketball head coach Bill Self hasn’t had to deal with that though.

The Jayhawks returned to campus earlier this month after having been gone since the university went fully online last March. That equates to about four and a half months of down-time.

According to Self, his team has been looking good both physically and mentally since coming back to campus:

"“I’ve been very happy with guys’ attitudes. They’ve been great, mature. The newcomers have been very good, but I’m not getting overly excited now (because of the uncertainty of college sports).”“We’ve had some guys whose skill-sets have improved, bodies have improved. I’m not at the point to tell you who looks good or who doesn’t. All are looking good. We’ve definitely improved.” (per the KC Star)"

The fact that the Jayhawks are handling the situation well and still getting better is certainly a good sign. It bodes well for the character of the team, and if they do get to play this season, they may have a leg up on other teams that aren’t handling the challenges as well and not getting as much out of their practices.

At any rate, it sounds like Kansas basketball will be prepared for the season regardless of what experts, officials, and administrators are saying. If Self can help maintain the positive energy, the Jayhawks could be looking at back to back Big 12 titles.
