One proposed scenario for the 2020 Kansas Jayhawks’ season would be less than ideal for the Jayhawks if it was implemented.

Rumors are flying on Twitter regarding the 2020 college football season, and there’s a new piece of news about every hour. Everything from total cancellation of the 2020 season to conference realignment is on the table, and one scenario would be less than ideal for the Kansas Jayhawks.

On Twitter, Stewart Mandel of The Athletic suggested a new Big 12 model in the event of a Big Ten cancelation. Some Big Ten schools have suggested that they want to play even if the conference cancels though, and if the Big 12 goes on as planned, they could join the Big 12 for a time.

Here’s what Mandel suggested:

Big 12 North

  • Ohio State
  • Michigan
  • Iowa
  • Nebraska
  • Kansas
  • Kansas State
  • Iowa State

Big 12 South

  • West Virginia
  • Oklahoma
  • Oklahoma State
  • Texas
  • Texas Tech
  • Baylor
  • TCU

Ohio State, Michigan, Iowa, and Nebraska have all expressed a desire to play this season, so this is a real possibility if the Big 12 decides to give it a shot, but it’d be tough for the Jayhawks.

Obviously, this would be an extremely tough division for Kansas football to be in. They’re easily one of the weakest teams in the Big 12, so playing Big Ten powerhouses like Ohio State and Michigan would likely result in blowouts.

The other two projected weakest teams for the 2020 season include West Virginia and Texas Tech, who are both in the other division. Those were the Jayhawks’ two best chances to win, so if this plan happens, it’s going to be tough for Les Miles and his team.

Of course, some season is better than none. With any luck, every Power Five conferences will get things figured out and nobody will have to temporarily realign themselves.
