Though their 2022 recruiting class is empty, Kansas basketball is a strong contender for five-star forward Brandon Huntley-Hatfield.

To put it simply, Brandon Huntley-Hatfield would be an amazing addition to Kansas basketball’s 2022 recruiting class, which currently sits empty. Huntley-Hatfield is rated as a five-star recruit and the No. 6 overall prospect in the class of 2022 according to 247Sports’ Composite Rankings.

He currently holds offers from Kansas, Baylor, Kentucky, Tennessee, Auburn, Georgetown, Georgia, Mississippi, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, and Howard. Those schools are also Huntley-Hatfield’s top 11 choices.

Huntley-Hatfield is described by Evan Daniels of 247Sports as “one of the most impressive forward prospects in the 2022 class,” and “a capable shot maker from mid-range and three.” Considering that he stands at six-foot-eight, the fact that Huntley-Hatfield can knock shots down from beyond the arc makes him extremely valuable.

The stretch-four has become one of the most sought after player models both in the NCAA and in the NBA, making any big man who can shoot a hot commodity. It’s no wonder why Huntley-Hatfield is so highly recruited, and the Jayhawks are facing tough competition.

As of now, Kentucky seems to be the favorite to land the coveted five-star prospect. The Wildcats have two Crystal Ball predictions logged in their favor, but the Jayhawks must still have a chance.

Kansas is a blueblood program after all, regularly winning conference titles and winning games in the NCAA Tournament. While the looming threat of NCAA sanctions does hang over the Jayhawks, Kansas does boast a Hall of Fame coach, the best venue in college basketball, and a tradition of winning.

With any luck, Self and his staff will be able to convince Brandon Huntley-Hatfield that Kansas is the school for him. He’d be a huge pick up for Self and the Jayhawks, so watch for him to cut his list again in the future.
