Despite their first game being three months away, it’s never too early to talk about Kansas basketball and how they’re looking for the 2020-21 season.

With the uncertainty regarding the 2020 football season, it’s nice to take a break from it all and look ahead to basketball season. As of now, Kansas basketball should have a pretty good team, which is reflected in their latest rankings from NBC.

The Jayhawks came in at No. 5 overall, and No. 2 in the Big 12 behind Baylor. Texas Tech ranked at No. 10, while West Virginia was No. 17 and Texas was No. 21. That’s five Big 12 teams in the top 25, which certainly points toward a very competitive Big 12 for the 2020-21 season.

Despite the fact that Kansas claimed the conference title last season, Baylor seems to be the consensus favorite to win it next season. The Bears are returning most of their talent from last year, so that’s not super surprising.

The Baylor hype is real, but don’t think the Bears have the Big 12 locked up for the 2020-21 season.

Considering Kansas will be returning Marcus Garrett, David McCormack, Ochai Agbaji, Christian Braun, and Jalen Wilson, they’ll definitely have a chance to repeat. Not to mention the additions of five-star guard Bryce Thompson and top-rated JUCO prospect Tyon Grant-Foster.

Not only will Kansas be returning a lot of talent, but they also have a hall of fame coach in Bill Self who’ll have the Jayhawks ready to roll for the season despite the challenges posed by COVID-19. This isn’t the first time Kansas has lost talent either, so Self know how to get Kansas reloaded for another run at a title.

The bottom line is that Kansas basketball is expected to be a top-five team in the country next season. They’ve lost All-Americans in Devon Dotson and Udoka Azubuike; however, team leaders like McCormack and Garrett should be able to pick up the slack and lead the Jayhawks to success.
