The newest member of Kansas football’s 2021 recruiting class, DeVonte Wilson, is a solid addition to the class.

Kansas football landed recruit No. 15 for the 2021 class earlier this afternoon. DeVonte Wilson, a three-star safety will be joining the Jayhawks after recently decommitting from the University of Ohio.

Wilson holds offers from Akron, East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Liberty Marshall, and a few other schools. He’s also received attention from Texas Tech and Mississippi State. While Wilson didn’t receive any Power Five offers, the Jayhawks got a good one in Wilson.

He clocks in at six-foot-three and 190 pounds, which is really big for a corner. Wilson’s highlights are pretty sweet, and he can be seen using his size to his advantage. As a corner, Wiliams likes to be physical. He likes jamming receivers at the line of scrimmage, and he’s also a great screen buster. In the run game, Williams definitely isn’t afraid to take on blockers and make the tackle.

Here is Wilson’s tweet announcing his commitment to the Kansas Jayhawks’ 2021 recruiting class:

With Wilson’s commitment, the Jayhawks’ 2021 recruiting class now ranks No. 47 in the nation and No. five in the Big 12 according to Rivals. That’s a great spot for Kansas to be in at this point, and if they can somehow find a way to finish within the top 50 overall, that’d be huge for Les Miles and his staff in just their second season.

At any rate, Wilson is a nice pick up for Miles and his staff despite his low rating. Considering Kansas football’s recent lack of success, landing these underrated recruits and developing them is the key to success. With his size, Williams could develop into a great defensive back for the Jayhawks with some good coaching, and he could be one of the guys to help get the program turned around.
