Kansas football season looking evermore doubtful as time goes on
Kansas football’s 2020 season is still on track for now; however, doubt is growing after every day given recent trends.
There’s no easy solution when it comes to the 2020 Kansas football season. Either we lose college football and all of its benefits, or we risk the safety of student-athletes, students, coaches, fans, and others. There are some half-measures, like playing a reduced amount of games or without fans in the stands, but only one solution ensures that no one will be infected due to college football.
That realty is starting to set in, and the camp that believes that there will not be a 2020 season is growing by the day. Considering two major conferences, the Big Ten and Pac-12, have already canceled games outside their conferences, the next logical step would be to scrub the season as a whole.
The NJCAA just made that call, moving all Fall sports including football to the Spring. While this move does buy the NJCAA time, a host of problems come with it. Most notably, JUCO athletes that are bound for an NCAA school will now be in a bind where they’re caught between their junior college team and their team in the future.
Once again, there’s no perfect solution here. Fans seem to be understanding that more and more, as evidenced by this Twitter poll:
While getting rid of the 2020 season would be the worst-case scenario, it also puts everybody in the same boat. Having a uniform stance regarding COVID-19 is important given the amount of information flying around, and some governing bodies seem to be content with letting the conferences figure it out for themselves cough* NCAA cough*.
Once the Big 12 announces, we should have a decent idea of what Kansas football’s 2020 season will look like. We can expect decisions from the Big 12, SEC, and ACC sometime soon, hopefully before the end of the month.
