Kansas basketball is competing with many other schools to land four-star guard Rylan Griffen, who could be a game-changer for the Jayhawks.

Kansas basketball’s 2022 recruiting class is currently empty, but that’s nothing to worry about considering how far out that class is. That’s not to say head coach Bill Self and his staff haven’t been hard at work scouting and recruiting the class of ’22 though.

One guy that appears to be a top target for Self and his staff is Rylan Griffen, a six-foot-five guard out of Richardson High School in Texas. So far, Griffen holds offers from eight of the ten Big 12 schools, Arizona, Creighton, Arkansas, Depaul, and many others.

In a recent interview, Griffen stated that: “schools that are prioritizing me are probably Kansas State, Kansas, Baylor and Oklahoma, schools like that.” When asked about Kansas, Griffen talked about the tradition and fans: “The history with the program sticks out. They’re one of the best storied programs in college and their fanbase is one of the best if not the best in college.”

When it comes to beating out their fellow Big 12 competition for Griffen, it sounds like the Jayhawks should focus on their heritage and culture. That and the fact the Jayhawks are widely considered to be a blue blood program.

The idea of playing in a building like Allen Fieldhouse, in front of a sold-out crowd, and for a Hall of Fame coach is a powerful recruiting tool for Self and his staff, and they know how to use it.

As the No. 76 overall prospect in the class of 2022, landing Griffen would be a great way to start that class off. Obviously, it could be a while between now and when he chooses his school, but as long as Self continues to make him a priority, the Jayhawks have a great shot at landing Griffen.
