Kansas football News: Jayhawks land four-star receiver Keon Coleman

Kansas football just landed a big-time recruit in Keon Coleman, who will likely be the highest-rated prospect in the Jayhawks’ 2021 class.

Louisiana’s two-sport standout Keon Coleman has announced he will be committing to the Kansas Jayhawks to play both football and basketball. According to 247Sports, Keon Coleman ranks as 116th player in the nation and the 14th receiver in the nation, so Kansas football got a good one.

Coleman is the highest rated football recruit than any coaching staff has ever been able to bring to Lawrence. Coleman ranks number one in Kansas’s all-time recruits, a few spots above current Kansas football standouts Pooka Williams and Corione Harris.

Coleman’s recruitment involved some very prestigious Power Five schools. These schools include Oklahoma, Auburn, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida State, and many others totaling up to 38 offers from schools all around the nation.

Coleman’s recruitment came down to three schools being Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Kansas. Soon after Coleman announced he would be committing on the fourth of July, he received many “crystal ball” predictions to Oklahoma. Late on July 2nd is when the momentum started to shift towards Kansas, predicting the Louisianna receiver to commit to the Jayhawks.

While many Kansas fans on twitter started to celebrate the future Jayhawk signee, Coleman took to twitter to throw a smokescreen in hopes of throwing off all fanbases that were left in his recruitment.

Fortunately, it was just an attempt to save some hype for his announcement and to keep them on the tip of their seat moments before his announcement.

Keon Coleman also plans on playing basketball for Coach Bill Self during his time at Kansas. Rated as a three-star guard who will be able to hold his own at 6’4 and 185 pounds. Coleman will benefit from putting on weight in both sports, arguably more in basketball while fighting for minutes.

Coach Self and Coach Miles worked together, along with football assistant coach Brent Dearmon and Wide Receivers Coach Emmett Jones to bring the four-star talent to David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium and Allen Fieldhouse. Kansas fans should be proud of both coaching staffs who came together as a team to bring this university a top tier talent in Keon Coleman.
