Kansas football will have some playmakers on the  2020 team; however, the Jayhawks aren’t getting the recognition they deserve.

Kansas football will be better in 2020 than last season. Maybe not a ton better, but there will likely be an objective improvement. One reason the Jayhawks will improve is that they’re bringing back a lot of talent at the skill positions.

Running back Pooka Williams Jr. will be back for his junior season, plus receivers Andrew Parchment and Stephon Robinson who will be back for their senior seasons. Linebacker Dru Prox will also be returning this season after sustaining a season-ending injury in the Jayhawks’ fourth game last year.

Now that the season is getting closer and closer, the first of the preseason All-Big 12 teams are starting to come out. Athlon recently released their 2020 All-Conference Team, and it wasn’t too kind to the Jayhawks.

Given that Williams has been a first-team All-Big 12 for his first two seasons, it was no surprise that he made the first team. After that, punter Kyle Thompson was selected to the second team, and Robinson made the third team.

After that, Parchment and Prox both made the fourth team, which is too low for both of them. Prox, in particular, was a monster last season before being injured. He’d already racked up 39 tackles in less than four games into the year, and he’s due for a huge 2020 season.

Parchment was a huge part of Kansas’ offense last season, and with the graduation of Daylon Charlot, that role will likely increase. He should be no lower than a third team member, and if Kansas can find a reliable QB for next season, watch out.

It may take some time for Kansas football to break the perception the public has, but that process can be accelerated by winning some games next season. It doesn’t have to be an overnight thing either, but the more Kansas wins, the more legit they’ll be to the media and fans.
