Kansas basketball signee Bryce Thompson is expected to be a top 15 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.

Signing Bryce Thompson was huge for Kansas basketball. As the No. 20 overall recruit in the 2020 class, Thompson had a ton of offers out of high school, most notably from North Carolina, Michigan State, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and many others.

Thompson should be able to come in and immediately impact the Jayhawks, and likely start. He’s even projected to be a top 15 pick in next year’s NBA Draft according to CBS.

As a potential first-rounder, Thompson will have some expectations at Kansas. There’s no reason why he couldn’t be a leading scorer on the team, especially since both of the Jayhawks’ top scorers from last season are gone.

Josh Gershon on 247 Sports says that Thompson is a “big-time scorer who can knock down shots from all three levels,” so there should be no reason Thompson isn’t a big part of Kansas basketball’s offense next season.

Thompson is also a good passer too, so a Kansas backcourt featuring he and Marcus Garrett should have some extremely good assist numbers since Garrett led the team last season in that category.

While projecting Thompson as the No. 15 overall pick is fair, there is a chance that he could become a lottery pick at Kansas. It’ll take a really good season, but Thompson seems capable. If that becomes the case, he’d be the first Jayhawk taken with a lottery pick since Josh Jackson back in 2017.

There is one Big 12 player that’s expected to be a lottery pick, and that’s Oklahoma State’s Cade Cunningham who’s expected to go No. 1 overall by CBS.

While Thompson isn’t the highest ranked incoming freshman in the Big 12, he has enough talent to be a really special player. He’s also got a chance to make all-conference and all-American teams, in addition leading Kansas to another Big 12 title.
