Kansas football has had a pretty good off-season considering they retained the core of their staff and also got off to a good start on recruiting the class of 2021.

Slowly but surely, Kansas football is improving under head coach Les Miles. The Mad Hatter led the Jayhawks to a 3-9 season last year, and while Kansas probably won’t so much better in 2020, the long term future is looking at least a little bit brighter.

For starters, Kansas retained the core of their coaching staff through the off-season. While there were some departures from different position coaches, both coordinators are sticking around which is a good thing. Kansas was also able to keep receivers coach and passing game coordinator Emmett Jones in Lawrence as well.

Hanging on to offensive coordinator Brent Dearmon and Jones should be a top priority for Kansas from here on out.

The Kansas coaching staff has also been doing an excellent job on recruiting during this off-season. KU football’s 2021 recruiting class currently ranks No. 38 in the nation and No. 5 in the Big 12 Conference according to 247 Sports.

While it’s still really early in the process, landing local talent like running back Devin Neal is a great sign for the future. Neal held offers from a number of other Power Five schools including Nebraska, Iowa, Oklahoma State, and Kansas State.

Miles has also shifted Kansas’ focus from junior college transfers to high school recruits, which is a good thing for the future of the program. It may take a while for the high school recruits to pay off; however, it will more than likely be worth it in the long term.

Kansas football seems to be trending upward for once, as things are looking promising in the future even though the 2020 season probably won’t be anything too special.
