Kansas football: Senior Stephon Robinson will be key receiver next season
Kansas football senior Stephon Robinson will be an extremely important part of the Jayhawk offense next season.
Since transferring to Kansas as a sophomore, Stephon Robinson has played an important role for the Jayhawks. Next season though, Robinson along with Andrew Parchment will be leading an extremely talented Kansas football receivers corps that will hopefully have a couple of members selected to an All-Big 12 team.
Last season Robinson totaled 727 yards and 8 touchdowns. He had a career game when the Jayhawks defeated Texas Tech for their lone Big 12 conference win. He racked up 294 all-purpose yards in addition to two touchdowns on the night as Kansas picked up the 37-34 homecoming win.
Despite putting up good numbers, Robinson was not selected for any All-Big 12 teams, or even an honorable mention.
What can we expect from Stephon Robinson and the Jayhawks next season?
While both Robinson and Parchment were snubbed from All-Big 12 teams last season, both will be contenders next season, as long as the Jayhawks can find a quarterback. So far, there’s a bit of a question mark when at the QB position with Thomas MacVittie and Miles Kendrick being the two front-runners based on experience.
The quarterback questions aside, Robinson will certainly get his touches one way or another thanks to the creativity of offensive coordinator Brent Dearmon. There were a few times last season that Robinson got the ball as a running back rather than receiver, so he’s a threat out of the backfield too.
He was a threat on special teams too, as Robinson was also a dangerous return man for the Jayhawks last season.
It’ll be interesting to see the Kansas football offense next season. The Jayhawks have some talented pieces at skill positions with Pooka Williams at running back plus Robinson and Parchment at the receiver positions.
Whatever happens at the QB spot, expect Robinson to play a key role in the offense. His skill and athleticism will help out Kansas in a big way, and possibly translate to wins.
