Kansas basketball will be taking on a hyped up Creighton squad to begin December, and the game should be a good indicator of where the Jayhawks are at.

Kansas basketball is set to play a really tough non-conference schedule next season that will include Kentucky, Colorado, USC, and possibly Virginia and UCLA too. One of their biggest games though will come at home on December 3rd against Creighton.

The Bluejays won a share of the Big East last season, which was easily one of the best conferences in college basketball during the COVID-19-shortened 2019-20 season. The Bluejays are ranked in ESPN‘s way-too-early top 25 at No. 12, so Creighton should be pretty solid again next season.

One of the reasons this game will provide such a nice checkpoint for Kansas is because of who the Jayhawks will have played just one week earlier.

The Wooden Legacy

On November 26th and 27th, Kansas basketball will participate in the Wooden Legacy with UCLA, Georgetown, and Virginia. Presumably, Kansas will advance to the championship and take on Virginia who’s ranked in No. 4 in ESPN‘s way-too-early top 25.

Should Kansas take down the Cavaliers, a win over Creighton could validate the Jayhawks in the eyes of the AP Poll. On the other hand, if Kansas is defeated by Virginia, the Creighton game gives the Jayhawks a nice chance to respond by beating what will hopefully be a top 15 team.

Either way, the Kansas-Creighton game will be a good point to evaluate and compare the Jayhawks to their games earlier in the season. If Kansas has made significant improvement from when they played Kentucky to begin the year, that’ll be a good sign for the rest of the 2020-21 season.

After KU plays Creighton, we should have a good idea about the team and what we can expect from them, no matter the outcome. In the long-run, a win over Creighton would be a great resume booster for the Jayhawks, especially if they go on to win the Big East.
