Reason No. 2: The Kansas Jayhawks have the best coach in the Big 12

As long as Bill Self is the head coach of the Kansas Jayhawks, they’ll have a great chance to win the Big 12. He’s won the conference coach of the year award six times, which is more than any other coach. Considering that Self has won the conference title 15 times, you’d almost think he’d win the coach of the year award more often.

Despite the allegations against himself and the Kansas basketball program, Self has continued to reiterate that he’s totally committed to Kansas, which is certainly a good sign. There could be some tough days ahead, so having the staff fully on board is crucial.

Last season, Self coached the Jayhawks to a 17-1 conference record that included a win on the road against No. 1 Baylor. For next season, Self shouldn’t have to pull out to many tricks given the amount of talent on the roster.

The main challenge will be finding the right lineup combinations that maximize Kansas’ potential since there are a few questions. The biggest concern is who will provide the scoring for Kansas after the departure of Udoka Azubuike and Devon Dotson who combined for 31.8 points per game last season.

There’s absolutely no reason to doubt Self, and by the time conference play roles around, the Jayhawks should be at full power.
