Kansas will improve in both total offense and total defense

Last season in the Big 12, Kansas football finished No. 8 in total offense and No. 9 in total defense. Both of those numbers could go up significantly in the 2020 season based on a few different factors.

As mentioned, the return of Dru Prox should help out the Jayhawks immensely on the defensive side of the ball at middle linebacker. He should be in contention for first-team All-Big 12, so Kansas should expect a slight uptick on defense despite losing a lot of seniors.

The fact that offensive coordinator Brent Dearmon will have a whole offseason to plan and scheme should benefit the Jayhawks big time on the offensive end. Finding creative ways to use Pooka Williams and also balance him with the passing game will be the key to seeing the offensive output increase for Kansas.

Overall, Kansas should be a better team in 2020 than they were in 2019. That may sound like a given, but it really isn’t, especially considering the past 10 years of KU football and how it seems like every step forward is followed by three steps back.

Even winning just four games would be huge for the Kansas Jayhawks next season. Progress is progress no matter how small, even if fans and the coaches still aren’t satisfied.
