Kansas basketball: How the 2020 recruiting class compares to the Big 12
Kansas basketball’s 2020 recruiting class featuring five-star guard Bryce Thompson ranks in the top 3 of the Big 12.
The Kansas Jayhawks are in a good place with their incoming freshman. 247 Sports has finalized their rankings of recruits in the class of 2020 and Kansas basketball’s class is rated No. 19 in the country and No. 3 in the Big 12 Conference.
The class is made up of four talented recruits including five-star Bryce Thompson, four-stars Tyon Grant-Foster and Gethro Muscadin, as well as three-star Latrell Jossell. All four are really solid players, but five-star recruit Bryce Thompson should be really fun to watch and he’ll probably see playing time immediately.
Thompson was finalized as the No. 18 overall recruit in the class of ’20 by 247 Sports. He’s a six-foot-five combo guard that can knock down tough shots. He was selected as a McDonald’s All-American; however, he won’t be able to compete in the game since it was canceled due to COVID-19.
Compared to other schools in the Big 12 conference, Kansas basketball is sitting pretty good. Here are the full rankings via 247 Sports:
- Texas Tech
- Oklahoma State
- Kansas
- Baylor
- Iowa State
- Kansas State
- West Virginia
- TCU
- Texas
- Oklahoma
Only three schools managed to sign a five-star recruit: Kansas, Oklahoma State, and Texas. As a matter of fact, Oklahoma State signed the No. 1 overall in the class Cade Cunningham. The Longhorns and Shaka Smart, on the other hand, managed to sign big man Greg Brown who’s ranked No. 9 overall.
This will actually be the first season since 2012 that Kansas basketball isn’t one of the top two schools in the conference, which could be attributed to the allegations the Jayhawks are facing. Then again, the fact that the Kansas Jayhawks were able to land Thompson shows that their ability to recruit isn’t too diminished.
At the end of the day, this is a solid recruiting class for the Jayhawks that ranks right up there at the top of the conference. Grant-Foster and Thompson should be a blast to watch, and Kansas will have a great chance to repeat as Big 12 Conference champions.
