Shooting Guard: Kirk Hinrich (1999–2003)

Kirk Hinrich is one of the best guards in Kansas basketball history. He was an elite three-point shooter, and he was a leader on some teams that went super far in the NCAA Tournament. Here are some of Hinrich’s accomplishments as a Kansas Jayhawk:

  • 2003 National championship runner-up
  • 2002 Final Four
  • 3-Time conference champion
  • 2003 Third-team All-American
  • 2002 Third-team All-American
  • 2-Time first-team All-Big 12
  • No. 12 in all-time scoring at Kansas
  • Jersey retired

Kirk Hinrich and Nick Collison formed one of the best duos in Kansas basketball history when the two Iowa natives committed in 1999. The two led the Jayhawks to a few conference titles in addition to a Final Four and national championship runner-up.

It really is too bad that Nick and Kirk didn’t get win a national title at Kansas. They were more than capable, but some things just aren’t meant to be.

Hinrich’s best season came in his senior year when he put up a solid 17.3 points per game on the way to the ’03 national championship loss.

After his career at Kansas came to a close, Hinrich was selected with the No. 7 overall pick by the Chicago Bulls. He went on to have a successful NBA career, playing 13 seasons in the league.
