With the commitment of offensive lineman Edgar Amaya, Kansas football’s 2021 recruiting class continues to fill up.

Kansas football’s 2021 recruiting class is really starting to take off. The newest recruit is Edgar Amaya, an offensive lineman out of Alabama who’s a promising prospect for head coach Les Miles and the Jayhawks.

Amaya is an Alabama native and the second offensive lineman to commit to the 2021 class. He joins fellow lineman and three-star recruit De’Kedrick Sterns of Texas.

As just a three-star recruit, Amaya had numerous offers from schools like Illinois, Navy, Air Force, Tulane, Dartmouth, and others. He also received attention from Alabama and Tennessee, even visiting the Crimson Tide a couple of months ago.

Here’s Amaya’s tweet announcing his commitment to the Kansas Jayhawks:

With Amaya’s commitment, Kansas football’s recruiting class ranks No. 33 in the nation and No. 6 in the Big 12 Conference according to 247Sports. Miles has done a great job thus far of building up the class earlier rather than later, especially given the challenges of COVID-19.

With a lot of really solid prospects including Devin Neal, Jaddai Henry, and others, there’s no limit to how well this class could develop. If Miles and his staff can keep it going, it could very well be one of the best the Jayhawks have had in recent memory.

Back to Amaya, he’s listed as six-foot-three and 300 pounds, a pretty solid height and weight for a high schooler. Once the Kansas football staff gets ahold of him, Amaya’s development could really take off with top tier strength training and conditioning.

As Kansas football continues to try and climb out of the basement, recruiting is going to be a huge factor on whether or not that happens. Grabbing prospects that can develop for four years like Amaya will be the key to a turnaround effort, and so far, Miles and his staff are on a roll.
