Kansas football: Azur Kamara will get a shot with the Dallas Cowboys
Kansas football star linebacker Azur Kamara was undrafted; however, he’ll get a shot in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys.
Every college prospect wants to hear their name called in the NFL Draft, but only a select few do. Many more will still get a chance in the NFL after the draft as they’re signed by teams, which was the case for Kansas football’s Azur Kamara.
Kamara was signed after the conclusion of the draft by the Dallas Cowboys, and the former JUCO prospect and Kansas Jayhawk will get his shot to play at the highest level.
During his first season with Kansas, Kamara made an immediate impact starting in three games and playing significantly in the other nine. Last year as a senior, Kamara was a leader on the defensive side of the ball for the Jayhawks. He earned an All-Big 12 honorable mention at the conclusion of the season in recognition of his stellar play.
After the season, Kamara participated in the NFL Combine where he ran a 4.59-second 40-yard dash. His prospect grade by the NFL was a 5.19 which is a relatively low grade. The Cowboys likely see Kamara as a project, and he’ll really have to prove he can develop if he wants a chance to make the final roster.
Based on his Twitter, it sounds like Kamara is ready for the challenge:
Kamara will be joining Jayhawk Dorance Armstrong Jr. on the Cowboys who played for Kansas football through 2017. Even though they never played together at Kansas, hopefully Armstrong will help show Kamara the ropes and increase his odds of making the final roster cut.
Azur Kamara deserves his shot in the NFL, and he has the potential to stay there. It won’t be easy, but Kamara has the raw athleticism that coaches love to see.
