Nobody is more excited about the return of Mitch Lightfoot than Mitch Lightfoot. The Kansas basketball fan-favorite will be returning to the court next season for the Jayhawks.

The man, the myth, the legend. Mitch Lightfoot will be making his return next year for Kansas basketball after redshirting the previous season. Lightfoot has become a fan favorite and one of the most well-known Kansas Jayhawks during his time in Lawrence for his gritty play on the court.

To celebrate his return, Lightfoot uploaded a video of himself on Twitter literally dousing a red shirt in lighter fluid and setting it ablaze in a small fire pit. The caption reads “For your Sunday night entertainment💙❤️ @KUHoops and no such thing as too much lighter fluid.”

Here’s Mitch’s tweet with the video (don’t try this one at home kids!):

Mitch has brought a whole new meaning to the term “burning a redshirt.”

Having Lightfoot back on the floor will be a big boost for Kansas basketball next season. He’s an awesome teammate that does a lot of the dirty work like diving for loose balls, taking charges, and crashing the glass hard. It’s those kinds of plays that make Lightfoot a fan-favorite.

Based on the depth Kansas has at the forward and center positions, Lightfoot’s role will likely be what it’s always been: bringing energy off the bench.

Big man David McCormack will almost certainly start and Silvio De Sousa will come off the bench as well. Incoming freshman Gethro Muscadin will also be joining Kansas this year, but he may have a tough time finding playing time in his first season.

Given how much fun it is to watch Lightfoot, fans are understandably excited for his return. He’ll definitely provide a spark off the bench, and his fiery playing style will help the Jayhawks win games.
