Kansas football’s Hakeem Adeniji taken in sixth round of NFL Draft
Kansas football star offensive lineman Hakeem Adneniji was taken by the Cincinnati Bengals in the sixth round of the NFL Draft as he begins his pro career.
Hakeem Adeniji is one of the best pro prospects Kansas football has produced in the past five years. The 6-foot-4 lineman will begin his pro career with the Bengals after spending four years as a Kansas Jayhawk. In those four seasons, Adeniji started in every single game throughout his career.
During his junior season, Adeniji was recognized as second-team All-Big 12 before earning a first-team selection in his senior year. Adeniji graduated with his management and leadership degree and was invited to the Senior Bowl. After that, he received an invite to the NFL Combine.
Here are some of Adeniji’s measurements from the combine:
- 6-foot-4, 302 pounds
- 5.17 seconds 40-yard dash
- 26 bench press reps
- 34-inch vertical jump
- 115-inch broad jump
Now, Adeniji will have to prove that he belongs in the NFL. His overall combine grade according to the NFL was a 5.96, which means he’s at least projected to make the roster, so he’ll probably get at least one season to try and prove his worth.
As the first pick in the sixth round and No. 180 overall, Adeniji joins a Bengals draft class that includes Heisman and national championship winner and Joe Burrow, as well as Clemson receiver Tee Higgins and others. Even though it may be a little premature, it’s exciting to think about Adeniji having a chance to protect Burrow as a member of the Bengals’ offensive line.
With the rebuilding going on in Cincinnati, it’s a good thing he’s been drafted there. Their recent offensive line struggles may give Adeniji a chance to play in Zac Taylor’s system. The second-year head coach got an extremely durable and versatile guy and Adeniji, hopefully, he’ll get a chance to show just how talented he is.
