Kansas football’s 2021 recruiting class continues to grow
Kansas football landed the eighth recruit of their 2021 class today as the Jayhawks continue to climb the rankings.
Les Miles and his Kansas football staff have done an excellent job on their recruiting class of 2021 so far. Earlier today, the Jayhawks landed three-star offensive lineman De’Kedrick Sterns, the eighth commit of the class of ’21. Sterns is the second commitment Kansas has gotten in the past 24 hours, with three-star tight end Mason Brotherton committing last night.
If Miles and his staff keep this up and sign one or two four-stars, they could have the best class at Kansas in recent memory.
As of today, the Kansas Jayhawks’ 2021 recruiting class ranked at No. 26 in the country and No. 4 in the Big 12 according to Rivals. On the other hand, 247 Sports has the Jayhawks at No. 22 in the nation and No. 3 in the Big 12.
Being ranked this high is great, but it probably won’t last unless Miles and his staff can land some four-star recruits. A really good goal for Kansas would be to keep their class ranked inside the top 40. That’d be huge for Miles, and fans would probably see a difference on the field too.
So far, one of the best recruits committed to the Jayhawks’ 2021 class is running back Devin Neal out of Lawrence, Kansas. Landing the local phenom was a must for Miles and his staff, and they were able to come out on top in his recruitment. Neal also held offers from Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, and Iowa.
Fending off other Big 12 schools and near Big Ten schools for local recruits has been a challenge for some previous coaching regimes, but it looks like the Jayhawks may have a hold on the Lawrence area now under Miles.
Even though recruiting has been dampened due to COVID-19, Miles and his staff have done an excellent job of staying engaged with recruiting. The virtual junior day held by the Kansas football staff was a success, and it just goes to show how committed the staff is to turning the program around.
Let’s hope that the coaching staff continues to excel on the recruiting trail.
