Auburn head football coach Gus Malzahn gave his former assistant and current Kansas football offensive coordinator Brent Dearmon some high praise.

Les Miles made one of the best decisions as the head coach of Kansas football when he promoted Brent Dearmon to the offensive coordinator position midway through last season. Dearmon has been nothing but a positive for the Jayhawks, and he’s had success at his past stops too.

One of his past jobs was at Auburn where he was an analyst for Gus Malzahn’s staff. During his time with the Tigers, Auburn won an SEC championship and also appeared in a national championship game.

In an interview on WNSP-FM 105.5, Malzahn gave some glowing remarks regarding his thoughts on Dearmon. Here are just a few of the things Malzahn had to say:

"“[Dearmon’s] about as good at math as anyone I’ve been around, so I relied on him a lot.”“I can tell you about Brent (Dearmon) he can stay up late and get up early the next morning and not miss a lick.”” It doesn’t surprise me at all with the success [Dearmon] has. What stands out to me about Brent is he is a superhuman being.”“The sky’s the limit. He’s really good with Xs and Os part and even better with the relationship part that is really vital to success at the college level.”"

Wow Gus, tell us how you really feel.

Such high praise from a coach that’s had success in the SEC carries some weight, and it’s another reason that Kansas football should do anything it can to keep Dearmon in Lawrence. Suffice it to say, he’s a head coach in waiting.

When Miles leaves Kansas football, Dearmon has to be one of the most prominent candidates to take over the head coaching role once he gets a few more years under his belt as an offensive coordinator.

Dearmon will be a key figure in getting the Kansas Jayhawks football program turned around, and based on what Malzahn had to say, there’s no reason KU fans shouldn’t trust him to get the job done.
