Kansas basketball’s 2020 recruiting class is rated lower than Jayhawk fans are used to but it shouldn’t be cause for concern.

Kansas basketball’s 2020 recruiting class may not rank in the top ten, but don’t sell it short. It’ll be a talented group of freshmen coming in next season, and one or two members of the class should be able to make an immediate impact for Bill Self’s Jayhawks.

Headlined by five-star guard Bryce Thompson, the group also features one of the top JUCO prospects in the country in Tyon Grant-Foster, as well as big man Gethro Muscadin and the underrecruited point guard Latrell Jossell.

According to 247 Sports, Kansas’ recruiting class ranks No. 20, while Rivals has the Jayhawks at No. 12. Kansas gets a better rating from Rivals due to the fact that they rate Muscadin and Grant-Foster as four-stars while 247 lists them as three-stars.

While Kansas basketball fans may be somewhat accustomed to landing top ten classes, this will actually be the second year in a row that the Jayhawks rank outside the top ten in both recruiting services. The recent drop in ratings could very well be caused by the NCAA’s notice of allegations, but all things considered, Self and the Jayhawks are doing pretty well despite the negative publicity.

As the 2020-21 season starts, look for Bryce Thompson to be a huge part of the Jayhawks’ offense. The five-star guard boasts elite shooting in addition to the ability to facilitate, both of which will be important for next season’s team without Udoka Azubuike and Devon Dotson.

Even though he’s the least hyped up out of KU basketball’s 2020 recruiting class, Latrell Jossell may be a fun player to follow as well. He only had two offers and received interest from just three other major schools in his recruitment. Obviously the Kansas coaching staff liked something about Jossell, so we’ll just have to wait and see what his role becomes in the future.

light. must read. Best players of the Bill Self era

Just because their class isn’t in the top ten doesn’t mean it isn’t worth getting excited for. Bill Self and his staff did a tremendous job of putting it together despite the dark cloud of the NCAA, and hopefully that issue will be resolved in the coming months.
