The Kansas football coaching staff has been working hard despite recruiting complications from COVID-19 as evidenced by the commitment from Deldrick Withers.

Deldrick Withers, a six-foot-four, two hundred and fort five-pound defensive end from Little Rock, Arkansas verbally committed to the Jayhawks Monday. Withers held offers from schools such as Kansas football, Louisiana Tech, Murray State, Northeastern State, and Arkansas State.

Only pulling in six offers, Withers also received interest from two other power five schools in Missouri and Oklahoma State.

While speaking to 247 Sports, Withers had this to say about the Kansas football program and head coach Les Miles:

"“I feel that the program is moving in a positive direction and I believe that they can help me grow into a better person and player. Les Miles has a proven track record with players on my side of the ball and position.”"

Withers’ high school head coach, Brian Maupin, was interviewed as well and had high praise for Wither’s game and future at Kansas.

"“They’re getting a stud. First of all he’s a great kid. Awesome family. Of all the kids on our team Deldrick probably played more snaps than anybody else. He played o-line, he plays right tackle and d-end and he’s done that back to back years on two back-to-back state championships, that’s 30 starts“I mean never comes off the field. He’s long, he’s explosive, he has big thick legs, he can run, he has a good pass rush package and repertoire, he’s not just a kid that overpowers smaller high school kids, he really uses the fundamentals and techniques and that’s only going to grow in college. Also plays basketball for us, a good basketball player. Great student, 3.5 and 20-something ACT. He’s a team leader, I can go on and on.”"

Head coach Maupin noted that offensive coordinator and quarterbacks Brent Dearmon was a huge factor in getting Wither’s commitment to Kansas. Dearmon will continue to be instrumental in the Jayhawks being able to land their recruiting talents.

Withers will be the sixth commitment of the Jayhawks 2021 class which currently ranks No. 29 in the nation and No. 6 in the Big 12. The goal for Kansas should be to keep their ranking inside the top 50 nationally. The class is far from complete, but Withers is a nice addition in what will hopefully be a solid group for Miles and the Jayhawks.
