Bench No. 2: Marcus Morris (2008–2011)

The most recent Jayhawk to have his jersey retired, Marcus Morris was a force to be reckoned with. His physical play made him one of the toughest players during Self’s time at Kansas, and one of the best. Here are some of Morris’ stats:

  • Three-time Big 12 champion
  • 2011 Big 12 Player of the Year
  • 2011 Consensus second-team All-American
  • One-time First-team All-Big 12
  • Jersey retired

Marcus and his twin brother Markieff committed to Kansas in 2008. From that moment on, the twins became a dynamic duo, helping the Jayhawks to three Big 12 titles.

In his junior season, Marcus Morris was averaging 17.2 points and 7.6 rebounds per game for the Jayhawks. Along with his twin brother Markieff, Morris led KU basketball into March Madness as a No.1 seed; however, the Jayhawks would end up falling to Shaka Smart’s VCU squad in the Elite Eight.

After his junior season, Morris declared for the NBA Draft and was taken with the No. 14 overall pick by the Houston Rockets. Morris has had a successful NBA career, and he’s still playing today as of 2020.

Now, let’s get into the starting lineup of the All-time Bill Self era Jayhawks team beginning with the center.
