Gooden played at Kansas from 1999-2002. Here are some of his many accolades during his time as a Jayhawk:

  • NABC Co-Player of the Year, 2002
  • Consensus First-Team All-American, 2002
  • Big 12 Player of the Year, 2002
  • Big 12 Champion, 2002

Gooden was a huge part of the Jayhawks making the final four in his junior season. He averaged nearly 20 points and 11 rebounds per game, both of which led the Big 12 Conference.

After a successful career at Kansas, Gooden was selected with the fourth overall pick in the 2002 NBA Draft by the Memphis Grizzlies. Gooden’s NBA career spanned from 2002-2016 and with time spent on 10 different teams in the league. After he retired from the NBA, Gooden finished his degree in communications at the University of Kansas.

Gooden isn’t the only prominent Jayhawk that could be inducted into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame in the 2020 class. Former Kansas head football coach Glen Mason is also a nominee. Mason won two bowl games with the Jayhawks and led them to a 10-2 record in the 1995 season.
