The George Papas dunk, Nov. 15

Kansas basketball took on the Monmouth Hawks early in the season and took care of business. Isaiah Moss led the team with 21 points in a 112-57 blowout. It Kansas basketball’s most points scored in a game all season, but one Monmouth player wasn’t having it.

As the clock was winding down, Tristan Enaruna of the Jayhawks was dribbling the clock out. That’s when Monmouth junior George Papas came off his man, stole the ball, and dunked it at the other end. Check it out:

The lack of sportsmanship had Allen Fieldhouse in a frenzy, but Papas didn’t seem to care.

Papas was issued a technical foul for talking after the dunk, leading to two more points for the Jayhawks. It was a bizarre thing to see happen, and once again, the Jayhawks were all over national media. There must have just been something about this season that made opponents think stealing the ball as time is running out is somehow a good idea.

After the game, some argued that Papas was just playing until the clock hit 0. Others believed that stealing the ball while the other team is dribbling the clock out is a bad move, especially when you’re down 55 points. Either way, it was an unusual incident.
