Kansas basketball pulled off a massive win yesterday on the road against Baylor. Here’s the biggest takeaway from the Jayhawks’ biggest win of the season (so far).

Kansas basketball continued their winning ways on the road this season yesterday against Baylor. The Jayhawks got the win 64-61, snapping the Bears’ winning streak and extending their own winning streak. The biggest takeaway from the game doesn’t have to do with streaks or records or anything like that though.

It has to do with how this Kansas team is peaking at the right time.

The Jayhawks are winning games against ranked teams on the road and solidifying themselves as the best team in the nation at this point. With four games left in the regular season and the Big 12 Tournament looming, the Jayhawks are saving their best for last and proving to the selection committee that they’re worthy of a one seed, and maybe even the No. one overall seed.

Lending to the Jayhawks’ credibility as a one seed,  just look at Kansas’ major resume wins this season:

  • BYU – Neutral
  • Dayton – Neutral
  • Colorado – Home
  • West Virginia – Sweep
  • Texas Tech – Home (will play Red Raiders on the road 3/7)
  • Baylor – Road

Despite all of their great wins this season, the victory against Baylor was actually Kansas’ first against a top 10 team all season. It proved that the Jayhawks can beat anyone anywhere, which is an extremely important quality to have in March Madness.

Still, the season is far from over.

The Jayhawks have four games left including a road game against in-state rival Kansas State and another road game against Texas Tech. If Kansas wants to secure at least a share of the Big 12 title this season, they’ll need to win out given Baylor has the same record as Kansas now.

Kansas basketball is playing their best basketball here late. They’re looking like a well-oiled machine, and a lot of credit has to go to Bill Self. If this team reaches its peak, there may be no stopping the Jayhawks come March.
