Kansas basketball alum Andrew Wiggins was recently traded to the Golden State Warriors, which is a great fit for the former Jayhawk.

After having a great season with Kansas basketball, Andrew Wiggins was drafted first overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers and then traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves without playing a single game for the Cavs. Wiggins would have one playoff appearance with the Timberwolves, no all-star selections, and no mind-blowing stats. He wasn’t bad with Minnesota, but Wiggins seemed to be in a rut.

That is until he was dealt to the Golden State Warriors a few days ago at the NBA trade deadline.

Under head coach Steve Kerr, the Warriors have become a dynasty, winning titles in 2015, 2017, and 2018; however, the team is down this year due to the loss of Kevin Durant, and injuries to Klay Thompson and Steph Curry. When the two “splash bros” get healthy though, Golden State will more than likely pick up right where they left off as title contenders and this time with Andrew Wiggins.

Head coach Steve Kerr has already talked about how having the former Kansas basketball star can help the Warriors contend with other teams in the Western Conference: “It’s good to have a player who we can put on LeBron and at least match up physically.”

Ultimately, the change in scenery and culture could be just what Andrew Wiggins needs to become elite. Even if that doesn’t mean all-star appearances, Wiggins could be a difference-maker on an NBA Finals bound team. Here’s what the Jayhawk had to say about the switch:

"“We lost a lot in Minnesota. So coming here, being part of a winning culture, it’s different. Losing’s never fun. Being here, you can tell by everyone’s attitude, approach, everything that’s everywhere, they’re winners. That’s something I’ve wanted to be.” – Andrew Wiggins via Anthony Slater"

The last Jayhawk to win an NBA Finals was Sasha Kaun, who won a ring with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016. As of now, Marcus Morris of the Los Angeles Clippers, Joel Embiid of the Philidelphia 76ers, and Andrew Wiggins of the Golden State Warriors have the best chances to win rings soon.
