Kansas basketball took down the TCU Horned Frogs this morning, winning head coach Bill Self his 700th career victory.

Kansas basketball handled TCU in a 60-46 road victory this morning. Devon Dotson and Udoka Azubuike looked unstoppable, with each totaling a double-double. Dotson finished with 18 points and a career-high 11 assists, while Azubuike had 20 points, 15 rebounds, and five blocks.

Maybe more importantly, Bill Self won his 700th career game against the Horned Frogs. He ranks No. 23 in total wins among division one men’s college basketball coaches and only 19 wins away from legendary Kansas basketball head coach Phog Allen. Above Allen, Roy Williams has the highest number of wins among Kansas basketball head coaches with 881 total victories.

This is a major milestone for Self, who’s the second-youngest coach ever to reach 700 wins behind Bob Knight. Self is 57 years old, so it’s realistic to expect him to finish top 10 in all-time victories.

Next season, Self will probably move to the top 20 in all-time wins, passing Rick Barnes, Phog Allen, Don Haskins, and Ray Meyer.

As Kansas basketball fans, we should be very fortunate to have coaches as great as Bill Self and Roy Williams back to back. It’s honestly incredible to have two hall of fame coaches in a row, since most other programs would be lucky to have a hall of fame coach once every few decades.

With a national title this season, Self would easily cement himself as one of the greatest of all time. Only four active coaches have won multiple titles, putting Self in elite company if he can get it done this season.
