Kansas basketball’s Christian Braun had an incredible game against Kansas State. Too bad nobody is talking about it.

If you want another story about the fight, this isn’t it. The massive brawl at the end of the Sunflower Showdown was unfortunate, mostly because it marred what would have been a great victory for the Jayhawks, and a superb game from Kansas basketball’s Christian Braun.

The freshman scored a career-high 20 points against the Wildcats, draining six three-pointers. He also grabbed four rebounds and a pair of steals. One explanation for Braun’s big night could be that the game meant a little bit more to him.

Braun is a Kansas native who graduated from Blue Valley Northwest High School. As a three-star recruit, he was offered by Kansas, Kansas State, Texas Tech, Illinois, and other top programs. Braun committed to Self and the Jayhawks, and he’s shown enormous improvement so far in his freshman campaign.

Recently, he’s become arguably Kansas’ most important bench player, getting around 20 minutes per game (he played 29 against Kansas State). In the absence of Mitch Lightfoot, Braun has become the Jayhawks’ spark off the bench, but in a different way.

Braun is a shooter, and he’s going to shoot. He becomes very important to the team if he Isaiah Moss, Devon Dotson, and Ochai Agbaji can’t get it going from behind the arc, because he’s one of the more consistent shooters on the team when he gets minutes.

Kansas basketball needs Christian Braun, and it’ll be exciting to see what he does in the future. He’ll more than likely be a four-year guy and his high ceiling is certainly intriguing.

FIGHT. The ‘Sunflower Throwdown’. light

Braun has all the signs of a fan favorite Jayhawk: he’s from Kansas, he’ll probably be a four-year player, he plays hard, and he’s fun to watch. Look for Braun to continue to be heavily in the rotation throughout the rest of the season.
