Kansas basketball suffered one of its most brutal home losses in recent memory to #4 Baylor. What does it mean for the Jayhawks?

Yesterday’s game in Allen Fieldhouse wasn’t pretty. The Jayhawks fell to top-five Baylor 55-67, and Kansas basketball fans responded by completely melting down. The bottom line is that as of right now, Baylor is better than Kansas. There’s no other way to put it, but that isn’t the only takeaway from the game.

Baylor is arguably the best team in the country, they have an incredible resume, and the Bears have a legitimate chance to be number one in the AP Poll this Monday. Kansas lost to a good team, and while a win is better than a “quality loss,” it’s not like the Jayhawks lost to an inferior team.

Probably the biggest blow to the Jayhawks comes from losing the inside track to the Big 12 title.

The Bears are now 3-0 in conference play with wins against Texas, at #22 Texas Tech, and now at #3 Kansas. There isn’t a tougher venue to play at than Allen Fieldhouse in the Big 12, so it looks like Baylor isn’t going to struggle on the road this season.

Now that Baylor has the inside track, it seems imperative that Kansas gets a win in Waco on February 22. Of course, Baylor could lay an egg, but given the quality of wins Scott Drew and the Bears have gotten this season that doesn’t seem likely at all.

At this point, Kansas basketball has to control what it can control, and hope other teams can get the best of the Bears, however unlikely.

The Jayhawks have a great chance to rebound this Tuesday night against Oklahoma. The Sooners fell last night to Iowa State in Ames 81-68.
