Kansas football: Three potential breakout stars in 2020
Kansas football is poised for a big season in 2020. Here are three players that could potentially be key pieces for the Jayhawks next season.
Despite a 3-9 finish in 2019, Kansas football is returning some talented pieces for the 2020 season. Some of those pieces are lesser-known but they have a chance to make a big impact, especially after the loss of multiple contributing seniors.
The Jayhawks lost many important pieces from their 2019 team, most notably:
- Bryce Torneden – Safety
- Daylon Charlot – Wide Receiver
- Elmore Hempstead – Cornerback
- Azur Kamara – Linebacker
- Najee Stevens-McKenzie – Linebacker
- Carter Stanley – Quarterback
- Mike Lee – Safety
- Jeremiah McCullough – Safety
- Hasan Defense – Cornerback
- Hakeem Adeniji – Offensive line
Overall, Kansas football lost a total of 25 seniors from the 2019 team. That’s going to open up a lot of spots for Jayhawks that haven’t had much of a chance to play yet, or Jayhawks who’ve been in limited roles up to this point in their individual careers.
The amount of turnover between last season and the upcoming season isn’t a bad thing though. It gives Les Miles and the relatively new coaching staff a chance to start implementing their style and move on from the old coaching staff’s recruits.
Not only that, but some of these guys deserve a chance to shine in prominent roles. They’ve waited years, and now they’ll get a chance to play on Saturdays and showcase their skills and talent.
