Kansas football: One holiday gift the Jayhawks need
Merry Christmas Kansas football fans! There’s one present that we all want: Florida Gators transfer quarterback Feleipe Franks.
Since former starting quarterback Carter Stanley has graduated, Kansas football is looking for a new leader to run coordinator Brent Dearmon’s Jayhawk offense. Despite a few quarterbacks on the roster and a new signing in the 2020 recruiting class, the most intriguing prospect is Feleipe Franks.
Franks, a former Florida Gator, was rumored to be interested in coming to Kansas after following Dearmon and head coach Les Miles on Twitter. Franks also has a history with Miles, who recruited him to play football at LSU. Franks committed to Miles, then flipped to Florida.
Even more recently, Franks posted on his Instagram story that he was in Lawrence, presumably meeting with Miles and the Kansas football coaching staff. Since his Instagram post, the “Franks to Kansas” rumors have seemed to quell, but landing the talented quarterback should be a priority.
Kansas football has talent at skill positions that it can’t afford to waste next season. Pooka Williams is a back-to-back first-team All-Big 12 running back, and Andrew Parchment was an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention receiver.
The Jayhawks are returning other playmakers too like Stephon Robinson and Kwamie Lassiter II. Franks would undoubtedly add to the Jayhawks’ talent, and he could certainly help Kansas achieve its maximum potential.
While landing Franks would be ideal, there are other options for Kansas football. The Jayhawks have three quarterbacks on the roster that would probably compete for the position right now. Senior Thomas MacVittie, junior Miles Kendrick, and sophomore Torry Locklin would all be jockeying for position, while incoming freshman Jalon Daniels might be one to keep an eye on as well.
Still, if Miles and Kansas could convince Franks to spend his final year of eligibility in Lawrence, it could be the push the Jayhawks need to get out of the basement. Normally Kansas is on the losing ends of the quarterback transfer situations, but they just might be on the right side of this one.
