Kansas basketball has a matchup late this afternoon with the unremarkable Kansas City Kangaroos, but the Jayhawks can’t go into the game uninterested.

It’s been proven time and time again this season, just because a team has the edge on paper doesn’t mean they already have the win locked up. Both Duke and Kentucky have lost games that shouldn’t have been close, yet the Jayhawks haven’t hit a midmajor snag yet.

After starting the season 4-3 under new head coach Billy Donlon, Kansas City’s hit a bit of a rough patch, losing three of their last four and dropping their record to 5-6 so far this season.

Kansas will have to watch out for six-foot-ten center Javan White, who currently leads Kansas City with 12 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game this season. The senior struggles from the free throw line though, so the Jayhawks could use that to their advantage.

Still, none of the Kangaroos’ stats jump off the page for any good reasons. They were picked to finish almost last in the WAC because their team just isn’t great this season.

The bottom line is that Kansas basketball should easily dispose of the Kangaroos, before turning their sights on #20 Villanova the following weekend. The game against the Wildcats will be the Jayhawks’ first road test of the season, and it’ll be telling.

Last year’s squad was undefeated before they traveled for their first true road game against Arizona State and got beat 80-76 by the Sun Devils. That loss set the tone for the rest of the season on the road, as the Jayhawks were 3-8 in places not called “Allen Fieldhouse.”

As mentioned though, it’s imperative that Kansas basketball stays focused on the Kangaroos before even thinking about Villanova. It’d be an absolute catastrophe for Kansas basketball if they found a way to lose, but so far this season, the Jayhawks continue to show that they’re always going to be locked in no matter the opponent.
