Kansas basketball ends Colorado’s undefeated season
Kansas basketball took down the previously undefeated Colorado Buffaloes in dominating fashion. This win could end up being very important for the Jayhawks.
Kansas basketball didn’t play their best game against #20 Colorado, but it didn’t matter. The Buffaloes never had a shot, as the Jayhawks got the win 72-58, easily covering the 10.5 point spread (odds courtesy of The Action Network).
Ochai Agbaji was a man on a mission, knocking down 4-of-6 three-pointers and scoring 20 points on the night. Agbaji also dominated on the glass, pulling down 12 rebounds to give himself the double-double. Devon Dotson and Udoka Azubuike were their usual selves, combining for 30 of Kansas’ 72 points
Overall, the Jayhawks shot 52.9% from the field, and 46.2% from behind the are. It took a while to get the three ball going though, as Kansas was 0-for-6 in the first half from deep.
The major blemish on this game for Kansas though was in the turnover column. The Jayhawks turned the ball over 21 times, allowing Colorado to amass eleven steals on the night.
Turnovers cost Kansas their season opener against Duke, and more than a few games last season. It’s pretty simple, if Kansas can’t take care of the ball, they’re going to have a hard time when they take on better teams in the future.
By far the best part of the night though was the Kansas defense.
The Colorado strategy for the game must have gone something like this: “Hey guys, shoot as many threes as you possibly can,” since Colorado really let it fly from deep.
The Buffaloes were 18-of-60 from the field and 7-of-34 from three-point range. Yes that’s right, Colorado shot over half of their shots from behind the arc, and while they got a few open looks, the Kansas three-point defense looked much improved from the Dayton game.
It’s that kind of vast improvement that’s going to help this team do big things in March since this team already has all the talent in the world.
This win over Colorado is already important since they were ranked #20 and undefeated, but it could mean even more later in the season. The Buffs actually have a chance to win the Pac-12 this year, and if they did that, it would look really good for Kansas basketball to have blown out a conference champion come Selection Sunday.
