So far this season, the AP Poll rankings have meant next to nothing. As long as Kansas basketball can stay consistent, they’ll have a great shot at a high seed in March.

So far this season, Kansas basketball’s only loss has come to Duke in a game that they turned the ball over 28 times. Since that season-opener in Madison Square Garden, the Jayhawks have done an exceptional job at taking care of the ball, proving that the two-point loss was just a fluke.

Kansas also hasn’t lost a game since Duke, and was recently crowned Maui Invitational champions after a hard-fought victory over an up and coming Dayton squad led by Obi Toppin.

Other top-five programs haven’t been doing too got recently.

So far this season, the number one ranked team has lost three times. Michigan State lost to Kentucky, then Kentucky lost to Evansville, and more recently Duke lost to Stephen F. Austin. It’s been anarchy this season, and with no clear-cut favorite, it looks like the Final Four is up for grabs.

That’s why Kansas basketball must be consistent.

They have three more really important non-conference games against Colorado, at Villanova, and at Stanford before Big 12 play starts. Those non-conference games could be the difference in another four seed and a one or two seed this year, so the Jayhawks really need to win all three.

Kansas basketball fans shouldn’t be worried though. The Jayhawks showed a lot of grit and toughness last Wednesday night against Dayton, and that grit and toughness is going to be key in this season with no clear favorites.

With guys as reliable as Udoka Azubuike and Devon Dotson, as well as coaching from Bill Self, it’s almost hard not to at least pencil in the Jayhawks a spot in the Final Four down in Georgia.

This is a really good year for Kansas to win it all, as the Jayhawks are as talented as any team in the country. It’ll be up to Self and the staff to get the Jayhawks running at peak efficiency, and with Self leading the way, you’ve got to like our chances.
