Kansas basketball fans should be thankful for Bill Self

After Kansas basketball took a tough loss in their first game of the season against Duke, the Jayhawks have looked pretty good, not great, but good.

Against the Blue Devils, Kansas turned the ball over 28 times, but yesterday against Dayton, Kansas only turned the ball over 11 times in a game that went into overtime. Talk about an improvement.

Bill Self has done an extraordinary job at Kansas during his tenure, and no Jayhawks fan in their right mind would say otherwise. His three final fours, 14 Big 12 titles, national title, and countless other accolades speak for themselves about the success he’s had at Kansas since he took over in 2003.

He already arguably the greatest coach in Kansas history, and with one more national title, he’d cement himself as the only Kansas basketball coach to win two NCAA tournaments during his time with the Jayhawks.

While Bill Self has a great past with Kansas, the future will be telling, since, after this season, it’s fairly likely that the Jayhawks get slapped with NCAA sanctions. Self has already said that he’s in it for the long run though, which is a comforting thought.

Even though there’s a small subset of Bill Self haters among Kansas basketball fans, his success is undeniable, and therefore we should all be thankful for what Bill Self has done for the Jayhawks over the past 16 years.
