Kansas football is in its customary “end of season downward spiral.” The Jayhawks are coming off a pair of bad losses by a combined score of 69-23, and things aren’t looking much better today against Iowa State.

With the Cyclones being more than a three-touchdown favorite, it’s hard to see Kansas football even having a chance in a hostile road environment.

Last week, Kansas struggled in every facet of the game, but the offense was especially hard to watch. Three different quarterbacks threw an interception for the Jayhawks and starting quarterback Carter Stanely struggled to get into a rhythm.

The Jayhawks’ rushing attack didn’t fare any better, as Pooka Williams lead the way with only 26 yards on the day.

Iowa State, on the other hand, got a big win last week against Texas via a game-winning field goal.

Quarterback Brock Purdy torched Texas for 354 yards and two touchdowns while running back Breece Hall picked up over 100 yards on the ground. Receiver Deshaunte Jones also had a big day, totaling 177 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Here’s the bottom line: Iowa State is good, and right now, Kansas is not.

Kansas football fans may want to fight about that, but the fact of the matter is that the Jayhawks’ offense has a 50/50 chance of showing up, and the defense is one of the worst at the FBS level. This game is going to require a small miracle for Kansas football to win, it’s just that unlikely.

The only real chance for Kansas is to somehow win in a shootout, but even that’s unlikely now that we know that Les Miles has been involved in the offense.

At this point, if the Jayhawks keep this game somewhat competitive, that should be considered a win. It’s time to start thinking about next season, so expect to see some new and different faces out there for the Jayhawks, especially if things go South like they did last week.
