Full Preview: Run defense must improve this week vs. OSU

The Jayhawks come into this game after a much-needed bye week. In their last game, Kansas got humiliated at home by in-state rival Kansas State 38-10. It was an all-around bad game for the Jayhawks, as both the offense and defense looked completely outmatched by the Wildcats.

This week against the Cowboys, Kansas football will have a shot at redemption, but winning a road game against a ranked opponent isn’t going to be easy.

The Jayhawk defense is going to have its hands full trying to stop running back Chuba Hubbard, who’s in the midst of a historic season. He currently leads the country in rushing yards and is on pace to rush for over 2,300 yards this season.

Kansas has already struggled to stop the run this season, so they’ll need to do everything they can to try and limit Hubbard and give themselves a chance to win.

On the other side of the ball, it’ll be interesting to see how offensive coordinator Brent Dearmon and the Kansas offense respond after only putting up 10 points against Kansas State.

This will be an especially important game for quarterback Carter Stanley, who’s coming off a two-interception outing against the Wildcats. He and running back Pooka Williams will have to be on their “A” game if the Jayhawks are going to have a chance against the Cowboys.

Slow starts have plagued the Jayhawks’ offense, and that cannot happen today.  Kansas football’s best shot to win this game will be in a shootout, so the offense will have to be ready to go from the first snap.

Chuba Hubbard will probably do his thing, but if the offense can keep pace the Jayhawks will have a fighting chance. This is a winnable game for Kansas football, but fans should be satisfied as long as the Jayhawks don’t get blown out and are competitive.
