Full Preview: Five things to watch against Monmouth
Kansas basketball got a nice win last Friday against a solid UNC Greensboro team. Now, they’ll look to keep improving against the Monmouth Hawks.
The Hawks are coming into this game having lost their previous to Kansas State. Monmouth was actually beating the Wildcats by nine points at halftime, but the lead wouldn’t last. Kansas State would go on to dominate, winning the game 73-54.
Ray Salnave led the Hawks in scoring, putting up 20 points on 7-10 shooting. Monmouth struggled with turnovers though, committing 25 against the Wildcats who totaled 17 steals on the night. Outside of the first half, Monmouth really couldn’t hang with Kansas State.
Kansas basketball is coming into this week having picked up a victory the week before against UNC Greensboro 74-62. The Jayhawks looked good when they ran a four-guard offense, and it’ll be interesting to see what Bill Self decides to do this week against the Hawks. He doesn’t have to totally abandon the two big look, but keeping it as a secondary option would be best for the offensive spacing.
The good thing for Kansas is that the Jayhawks should dominate Monmouth. Kansas basketball is a 26.5 favorite and has a serious size advantage inside. Monmouth’s starting center is only six-foot-eight, so seven-footer Udoka Azubuike should have a field day.
Kansas basketball has yet to cover the spread this season, and this would be a great game to get that done. Not only that but getting the offense to “click” is important. The Jayhawks only have one more game after this one, and then it’s off to the Maui Invitational.
