Kansas basketball picked up three-star recruit Latrell Jossell, but don’t let the stars fool you. Jossell is highly regarded by Bill Self and the Kansas coaching staff.

Kansas basketball just signed three-star point guard Latrell Jossell out of Texas. Jossell joins Bryce Thompson, Gethro Muscadin, and Tyon Grant-Foster in the Jayhawks’ 2020 recruiting class.

Jossell has been flying under the radar for recruiting, but don’t let the lack of stars or interest lead you astray.

Remember Frank Mason? He turned out pretty good, and similar to Jossell, was very underrated out of high school. Granted, Mason was a four-star, yet both had few offers when they committed to Kansas basketball.

Now, in no way will Jossell be expected to win a national player of the year award like Mason, but  Kansas basketball has a great reputation for developing players over four years.

"“I just watched Jossell over the weekend and he’s not the typical high end prospect you usually see Kansas involved with. He is a very good athlete, can shoot a bit from deep and plays really hard.” – Eric Bossi, Rivals"

Here is Jossell’s commitment Tweet:

Some Kansas basketball fans may interpret this as a result of the NCAA allegations, and they aren’t entirely wrong, but at the same time, Kansas was still able to land five-star guard Bryce Thompson.

So while the allegations do have a negative effect on recruiting, they don’t completely relegate Kansas to scraping the bottom of the barrel, like some fans believe Self is doing with Jossell.

The point is that Bill Self and the coaching staff know what they’re doing. They wouldn’t bother with Jossell if they didn’t believe he could help the team at some point down the road, allegations or not.

At the end of the day, this is a solid signing for Kansas basketball’s 2020 recruiting class. Jossell is talented and will undoubtedly work hard to prove that he belongs with the Jayhawks.
