Four-star running back recruit Ashaad Clayton would turn the Kansas football backfield into one of the best in the Big 12.

Ashaad Clayton is one of the top running backs in the class of 2020. The six-foot 200 pound running back out of New Orleans would be the biggest recruits for Kansas football in recent memory if he decides to commit to the Jayhawks.

So far, Clayton has offers from schools like Texas, Nebraska, Georgia, Kansas, and LSU. So far, both 247 Sports and Rivals both have LSU as the favorite to land the prospect, but the Jayhawks still have a shot. Kansas is the darkhorse according to both websites, but Clayton has hinted at the Jayhawks a few different times on social media.

In one live video, Clayton was seen wearing shorts with a Jayhawk on them. Clayton has also tweeted out a number of tweets that could refer to a potential signing with Kansas. Particularly, tweets that said “this duo would be deadly…” and “the missing piece…”

The deadly duo tweet could be in reference to current Kansas running back Pooka Williams, who is also from New Orleans. The duo of Williams and Clayton would indeed be deadly, and probably the best in the Big 12 and maybe even the country.

Landing Clayton would be huge for Les Miles and Kansas football. The Jayhawks already have a strong base for their 2020 recruiting class, but adding Clayton would solidify ut as one of the best in the conference and probably one of the best in the past 10 years for Kansas.

Also. Three takeaways from Jayhawks’ first Big 12 win. light

The fact that Kansas football is even in the race for Clayton is a very good sign for the direction of the program. Competing with big-time SEC schools like LSU and Georgia for a recruit is encouraging, and hopefully means the Jayhawks are becoming a more attractive school for recruits. It takes talent to win, and it looks like Kansas football might be able to bring in some elite talent for next season.
