What a big win for Kansas football. The Jayhawks kicked a game-winning field goal as time expired to give the Jayhawks a 34-37 victory over Texas Tech.

It was a great night for anyone involved in Kansas football. The Jayhawks won their first Big 12 game of the year in dramatic fashion, as kicker Liam Jones nailed a 32-yard field goal to give Kansas the win as time expired.

The crazy thing is that the field goal was actually Jones’ second attempt in a row. The initial field goal attempt was blocked and picked up by Texas Tech. Then, Red Raider Douglas Coleman III fumbled the ball BACK TO KANSAS, with two seconds remaining in the game.

This time, Jones would be kicking a 32-yard field goal to try and put the game away…

After Jones made the game-winning kick, madness ensued, with fans rushing the field in droves. It was a beautiful sight.

Other Kansas football players stepped up tonight too, quarterback Carter Stanley in particular. Stanley had a rough first drive, throwing an interception on the first play from scrimmage. After that, the senior settled in and had a pretty great game. He threw for 415 yards and three touchdowns and led the Jayhawks to a win after the Kansas ground game struggled to get going.

The Kansas rushing attack was only able to muster 112 yards on the day, unlike last week when the Jayhawks rushed for 239 yards against Texas. Overall, Kansas picked up 527 yards of total offense this week. It seems like offensive coordinator Brent Dearmon is the real deal.

There are a few areas where Kansas has to improve though. Special teams and winning the time of possession battle are both crucial and Kansas struggled on both. Blocked field goals cannot happen, and the Kansas kickoff unit dodged a bullet when Texas Tech returned a kick for a touchdown but was called back for holding.

Finally, Kansas football has to come out ready to go. Last week against Texas, the Jayhawks went down 14 and had to come back. This week, Kansas went down 17 and had to play from behind the entire game, never leading until the clock showed 00:0.

I guess if you are going to lead though, the end of the game is the best time to do it. At the end of the day, Kansas football got it done on homecoming, and the Jayhawks will take some momentum into the Sunflower Showdown next week against Kansas State.
