Five predictions for Kansas basketball in the 2019-20 season
Kansas will go undefeated in their non-conference games
Looking at the Kansas basketball non-conference schedule, there are some pretty tough games. Here’s the thing about tough games: good teams find a way to win them. If Kansas wants to stay in the top five, they’ll have to win their non-conference games. Here’s the schedule:
- Nov. 5: Duke (Champions Classic)
- Nov. 8: UNC Greensboro
- Nov. 15: Monmouth
- Nov. 19:East Tennessee State (Jim Maui Invitational home contest)
- Nov. 25: Chaminade (Jim Maui Invitational)
- Nov. 26: UCLA/BYU (Jim Maui Invitational)
- Nov. 27: TBD (Jim Maui Invitational)
- Dec. 7: Colorado
- Dec. 10: UW-Milwaukee
- Dec. 14: UMKC (Sprint Center)
- Dec. 21: @ Villanova (Big East Series)
- Dec. 29: @ Stanford
- Jan. 25: Tennesse (Big 12/SEC Challenge)
Last season, Kansas had the toughest schedule in division one basketball according to Ken Pomroy. Pomroy hasn’t updated his statistics yet for each team’s strength of schedule yet, but the Jayhawks should have one of the toughest in the country yet again.
The toughest games on the non-conference schedule have to be preseason number four Duke and hitting the road against preseason number ten Villanova. The Duke game will be especially interesting, with Tre Jones and Devon Dotson going head to head.
Other sneaky tough games include Colorado, a top team in the Pac-12, and the road game against Stanford. The Big 12/SEC Challenge game against Tennessee will also be a tough one, but the Vols lost a lot of talent from last year’s team including Admiral Scholfield who was an AP All-American honorable mention last season.
Kansas is a great team, and it is 100% possible that they total less than five losses this season. If the Jayhawks can make it through their non-conference schedule without a scratch, that’d be an excellent way to enter Big 12 Conference play.
