Kansas football is coming off its first bye week of the season to play the Texas Longhorns on the road. The Jayhawks will try to right the ship with a new offensive coordinator calling the plays, while Texas will try to rebound from a loss to Oklahoma last week.

Kansas football replaced former offensive coordinator Les Koenning with up and comer Brent Dearmon last week. It was a big move for the Les Miles staff that should pay dividends in the future. Dearmon is an RPO (run-pass option) guru, and he should be able to utilize the weapons on the Jayhawks’ offense like Pooka Williams and Andrew Parchment.

On the other hand, Texas is coming off a seven-point loss to playoff contender Oklahoma. The Longhorns may have kept the game close, but Oklahoma dominated nearly every facet of the game except turnovers, so the game wasn’t as close as the final score may indicate. Texas is also coming into this week with multiple players listed as either “out” or “questionable,” which should benefit Kansas.

The predictions:

Despite new optimism for Kansas football fans, the offensive coordinating change may not immediately lead to more wins. Texas is still Texas, and winning in Austin isn’t easy for any team, especially Kansas considering that the Jayhawks have never won there. The current line sits at Texas -21 according to actionnetwork.com. Here are our Through the Phog predictions:

Dylan Morrell, Site Expert:

  • Texas has a lot of things wrong right now including injuries and Sam Ehlinger not throwing the ball great, but the Longhorns are still a top 15 team in the country. I don’t think Kansas will get blown out; however, it probably won’t be super close. I’m just excited to see what Brent Dearmon cooks up on offense. 38-21, Texas

Nick Streeter, Contributor:

  • With Brent Dearmon at the helm as offensive coordinator, I believe that Kansas will show some new looks on offense that will give Texas trouble early. But once the Longhorns settle in, the talent gap between the teams will begin to show and they will eventually dominate the Jayhawks. 42-17, Texas

Austin Fitzgerald, Contributor:

  • Texas is coming off of an emotional loss to Oklahoma 34-27. Key for Kansas: Get off to a fast start they did just that that against Oklahoma but then gave up 38 consecutive points. Key for Texas is better protection as they gave up 9 sacks last week albeit against a way tougher defense than Kansas. 34-21, Texas
